The tax bills will be mailed out on or before August 28, 2024, with the grace period extended to September 18, 2024.

The EPA and the NJDEP were in town this week to inspect the Hawthorne Water System. This joint inspection was in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. The inspection team visited all components of the water system and reviewed regulatory documents. There were a few housekeeping items noted and those are already being addressed. Overall, the Inspectors were pleased with the overall condition, operation and maintenance of the water system. We should all be proud of the DPW for operating our water system in such a competent manner, and confident in the quality of water when we drink it and its availability whenever we turn on the tap.

This afternoon I had the pleasure of attending the culmination ceremony at Leadership Camp. The 136 incoming sixth graders at Lincoln Middle School had a great week, where they became familiar with the school, met their new classmates, and completed team-building exercises. Thank you Chief Knepper, Sgt. Delallo, and the entire Hawthorne Police Department for, yet again, another outstanding program.

On Wednesday, as part of the Leadership Camp program, the helicopter arrived from the New Jersey State Police Aviation Bureau, and State Troopers Andrew Garnier and Brian Klecka answered questions from the 6th Graders. It was great morning, and the helicopter arrival is always a special event during Leadership Camp; we are all very appreciative that the NJ State Police Aviation Unit joins us every year. Thank you to our Police Department and the New Jersey State Police for putting this together. While it is customary for our Ambulance Corps to be at Leadership Camp, and it is mandatory during a helicopter landing for our Fire Department to be there, I want to nonetheless thank them both for being a part of Leadership Camp. Our Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Corps are the best of the best, and I want to thank them for their commitment and dedication to the Borough of Hawthorne.

Please read the bulletin that I have attached regarding elder fraud scams. I believe this may help you if someone tries to scam you. Please take the time to read this.

The Board of Education has moved from the municipal building and is now at their new location across the street at 194 Warburton Avenue.

On Tuesday, Kennedy and Lincoln Maier, students at Roosevelt School, visited me at Borough Hall as “Mayor for the Day”. They had a great time touring the municipal building and spending time in Borough Hall, and I want to thank the staff for welcoming them.

Further to my letter last week, the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce and Hawthorne Green Team wanted to thank the 30 participating businesses and community locations that welcomed the Hawthorne families to search for the Hawthorne Bee during July and August. Please see their press release which is attached.

I want to thank Boro Bandshell Chairman Michael Pasquale for a great Summer Series at the Boro Bandshell.
