Eyewitnesses said he appeared to be unloading ice hockey gear and a driver pulled out of a parking space, accidentally hitting him, according to Middletown Police.

This resulted in the boy being pinned between the two vehicles for an extended period of time.

Emergency services were immediately called and when First Responders arrived they found the boy pinned between two vehicles.

Middletown Fire Department secured a landing zone for a medi-vac helicopter and the teen was flown from Dorsett Park to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a trauma treatment hospital.

The teen was transported to the landing zone with an escort from Middletown Police. Paramedics from Hackensack Meridian Health JFK EMS arrived at Dorsett Park and in conjunction with Middletown EMS continued to treat the patient for his injuries.

Deputy Police Chief Paul J. Bailey said the boy suffered “moderate injuries that are not life-threatening.”

The circumstances of the “low-speed crash” are under investigation by the Middletown Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit, Bailey said.

The motorist who was involved in the crash remained at the scene, Bailey said.

No charges were filed against the driver at the time

The Middletown EMS Department would like to thank all the first responders, from the Middletown Township Police, Middletown Township Fire Department, Hackensack Meridian Health JFK EMS and Hackensack University Medical Center AirMed 2.

"It takes a team, and we are very proud of this team," said Middletown EMS in a statement.
