PWC hosts tour of water treatment facility for state officials
The Fayetteville Public Works Commission hosted a tour of the Hoffer Water Treatment Facility on July 8 for Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, DEQ staff members, State Senator Val Applewhite, Mayor Mitch Colvin, County Commission Chairman Glenn Adams, and executive staff members for the city and county. PWC hosted the tour at the request of DEQ to brief attendees on the progress PWC has made in meeting the recently announced Environmental Protection Agency regulatory requirements for PFAS as well as provide feedback on how the state can help.
Woman arrested and charged with shooting boyfriend in Columbus County
COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A woman has been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting of her boyfriend in Columbus County on Saturday, July 14. Per the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a gunshot wound report at 500 Jefferson Street, Whiteville, at about 10 p.m.
‘Strike at the Wind!’ returns to Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center for six shows
“Strike at the Wind!” returns this summer to the newly renovated Adolph Dial Amphitheater at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center for six shows. The legendary play, which chronicles the life of Henry Berry Lowrie, will be performed July 18-20 and July 25-27. The amphitheater has undergone significant upgrades, including new stadium seating, walkways, lighting and a stage.

PBS sets premiere date for Wilmington 1898 documentary
A documentary project from PBS on the Wilmington 1898 massacre will premiere later this year. With the working title of "Wilmington 1898: An American Coup," the documentary is scheduled to air on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 9 p.m., according to a PBS news release. It will be part of the network's American Experience history series and available to stream for free simultaneously with broadcast on all station-branded PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS App.

Cumulus’ Tish Boden Heads From Shreveport To Fayetteville, NC.
Tish Boden has been named VP/Market Manager for Cumulus Fayetteville, NC, effective Aug. 1. Boden transfers to Fayetteville from the company’s Shreveport, LA cluster, which includes KRMD Bossier City (101.1). She had been serving in the same role there since December 2020. Boden succeeds Cheryl Salamone, who announced her retirement earlier this year.
Oak Island house at total loss after fire breaks out
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Oak Island Fire Department responded to a house fire at 9:35 pm on 210 NE 42nd street in Oak Island. Initial reports are that the two occupants inside the home smelled smoke and went outside to discover fire on the underside of the home. They were able to self-evacuate and no injuries were reported.
