The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Tarboro man in the 2022 shooting death of Albert Henry Jones III.

Keyshon Ray Holden, 24, formerly of 503 Church St. in Tarboro, faces a first-degree murder charge, according to Chief of Staff Wanda Samuel of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.

“After a thorough investigation, detectives were able to obtain additional intelligence in the homicide case,” Samuel said. “Due to additional evidence, a writ of habeas corpus was served on Holden last week.”

Jones’ decomposing remains were found Sept. 3 inside an abandoned church, the former Corner-Line Primitive Baptist Church, located in a wooded area near the intersection of Speight School Road and U.S. 264 Alternate, which is about 2 miles northwest of the town of Saratoga.

“Holden was developed as a person of interest in the early stage of the investigation,” Samuel said.

Jones, also known as “Fatboi,” had been last seen by his family on Aug. 30.

Samuel said Holden “is currently incarcerated in a correctional facility on unrelated charges to this case.”

Holden was brought to the Wilson County Detention Center on Tuesday morning and was jailed without bond.

Authorities found Jones’ cellphone and wallet with his body and kept the items as evidence.

An autopsy indicated Jones died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Jones had been living on the 1700 block of Birchwood Drive in Wilson, which is between Snowden and East Trail drives.
