The 2024-25 school year may have just begun, but one Taunton High softball senior has already made her college choice.

Pitcher Cate Larson announced her verbal commitment to continue her academic and softball career at Georgetown University Tuesday on X , the platform formerly known as Twitter. She becomes the third Tiger pitcher this decade to continue her softball career at the NCAA Division 1 level, following Villanova's Kelsey White (2021) and Texas Tech's Sam Lincoln (2024).

Operating as Taunton's No. 2 pitcher on the way to a fourth straight MIAA Division 1 title, Larson went 3-0 with a 0.25 ERA, giving up four runs (one earned) on 13 hits and a walk while striking out 41 in 28 innings of work. At the plate, where she also saw action as a designated player, she batted .341 with 15 hits, including a pair of home runs, nine runs and 13 RBIs.

She's also coming off a strong summer for Rhode Island Thunder 16U National- Lotti, giving up 87 hits on 56 runs (41 earned) while striking out 32 while playing tournaments all across the country. She was joined by fellow Tiger Bella Bourque as well as Dighton-Rehoboth's Cam Cloonan and King Philip's McCoy Walsh and Ali Gill among others.

Larson is the second Taunton senior to announce her Division 1 commitment, following shortstop Brooke Aldrich's verbal commitment to Providence College in July. She'll join her older sister and 2021 Taunton High graduate Hanna Aldrich with the Friars.

Other former Tiger softball standouts currently playing Division 1 include Louisville sophomore outfielder Ava Venturelli and Bryant senior catcher McKenzie McAloon.

Larson will now look to help lead Taunton to a fifth straight state title this spring, with the first game tentatively scheduled for March 31, 2025 at Foxboro.
