Another boys high school tennis season has come and gone in the Greater Taunton area.

Dighton-Rehoboth (9-6, 7-5 South Coast Conference) led the way locally, recording match sweeps against foes Case and Seekonk and qualifying for the Division 3 tournament before falling to No. 9 Medfield in the Round of 32. Bridgewater-Raynham (5-9, 3-4 Southeast Conference) swept rivals Brockton in both matches while Taunton (2-17, 0-16 Hockomock League) took down non-league foes New Bedford on both occasions.

With the spring season now in the rearview, here's a final look back at the Greater Taunton area athletes who stood out among the crowd to earn their spot as 2024 Taunton Daily Gazette Boys Tennis All-Scholastics.

    Player of the Year

    David Anghinetti, Dighton-Rehoboth

The senior wrapped up a solid high school tennis career going 11-4, with nine wins coming at first singles and the other two coming at second. He recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins against both Wareham and Case. Described by coach Victor Augusto as one of the better players to come through the program, he served as a co-captain for the Falcons and was voted the team MVP. An SCC All-Star, Anghinetti will continue his academic career at Wheaton College this fall.

    First Team All-Scholastics

    Eduardo Gardinal, Taunton

The junior played largely from second singles where he was a difference maker in the pair of wins over New Bedford. He also scored a solid 6-4, 6-1 win against King Philip to keep the Tigers from being swept. A Hockomock League Honorable Mention, Gardinal is also a member of the swim team.

    Banks Beckwith, Bridgewater-Raynham

The sophomore led the way for the Trojans once again from first singles, going 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the SEC. An SEC All-Star, Beckwith was also named a 2023 Taunton Daily Gazette Boys Soccer Second Team All-Scholastic.

    Wyatt Cooley, Bridgewater-Raynham

The eighth grader proved to be one of the most versatile players at the Trojans' disposal in his first varsity season, competing at times in both second and third singles as well as at first doubles with Andrew Wagner. The duo scored a win in their first ever first doubles match against Plymouth North. An SEC Honorable Mention, Cooley finished the season 6-8 overall (3-4 SEC), going 2-3 (1-1 SEC) in singles and 4-5 (2-3 SEC) in doubles.

    Andrew Wagner, Bridgewater-Raynham

The eighth grader mainly played first doubles alongside Cooley, going 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the SEC. In his first match at first doubles, Wagner and Cooley scored the Trojans' only win of the match against Plymouth North. He was named an SEC Honorable Mention.

    Spencer Jones, Dighton-Rehoboth

The senior wrapped up a solid high school tennis career going 9-6, with six of those wins coming at second singles and the other three at third singles. A co-captain for the Falcons, he moved into singles this spring after playing doubles his first two years. An SCC Honorable Mention, Jones was also a 2023 Taunton Daily Gazette Boys Soccer All-Scholastic and a member of the indoor track team. He'll continue his academic career at Virginia Tech in the fall.

    Alex Verma, Dighton-Rehoboth

The junior went 10-2 this spring, with eight of those wins coming at third singles while the other two came at first doubles. He had the Falcons' best showing in the tournament, falling 5-7, 3-6 in a sweep by No. 9 Medfield. An SCC Honorable Mention, Augusto said Verma be working hard this summer to lock down the first singles spot for his senior season.
