TAUNTON— The Silver City's annual youth golf tournament is back.

The 2024 Taunton Junior City Open will be held on Aug. 12-13 at the John F. Parker Municipal Golf Course, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. on both days.

The tournament is divided into three divisions based on age, with Division 1 featuring golfers aged 11-13, Division 2 for golfers aged 14-15 and Division 3 for golfers aged 16-18. All golfers will play 18 holes on Aug. 12 before the field is cut to the low scores for a final round of 18 holes on Aug. 13. The golfer with the lowest score after 36 combined holes in each division will be declared the winner and receive a trophy.

The entry fee for the tournament is $20, and those interested must register in person at the course, located at 17 Fisher Street, by Aug. 8. Once the field is set, tee times will be posted both at the course and in the Taunton Daily Gazette.

Last year, Norton's Shawn Clary captured the Division 1 title while Rehoboth's Charlie Rosa, a back-to-back Taunton Daily Gazette Golf All-Scholastic, took home the Division 2 crown and Franklin's Bryce Botelho won it all in Division 1.

Rosa had the lowest score of all participants last year, shooting a combined 142 (+2) over the two days, while Clary shot 150 (+10) and Botelho shot 167 (+17).

The TJCO Tournament Directors this year are Eric Davis, Paul Champagne, Tom Bernier, DJ Martinez, Larry Masterson, Bob White and Bobby Braga.
