Fairfield runs past Teague for postseason berth
MADISONVILLE - There was a lot in common between the Fairfield and Teague boys basketball teams. Both teams were swept by District triple-champions Franklin, Mexia and Westwood; and both teams split with Groesbeck. The Eagles and Lions even split the series between each other. But, being in a fourth-place tie for the playoff berth associated with that spot, something had to give last Friday. Three different players scored in double figures for Fairfield during a 6241 victory against Teague Friday night in Madisonville in a fourth place playoff play-in game. “We didn’t execute the way we planned and we were down a man,...
Commish to move Tax Office to former chiropractic building

Two court members, Precinct 2 Commissioner Will McSwane and Precinct 4 Commissioner Clyde Ridge Jr., expressed their support for keeping the Tax Office where it is, in the Federal Building, which would cost $140,000 less than moving it, including buying a new generator and making modifications at both the Federal Building and the former chiropractic building. McSwane said he had many people asking him about the...

Bags that aren’t clear were no longer allowed on campus beginning Thursday, Feb. 8. Female students are still permitted to carry a small bag for personal hygiene items. However, the bag should be no bigger than a pen/pencil pouch. Lunchboxes may still be carried at the junior high level. “Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we prioritize the safety and well-being of all students,” Skinner said.

Teague: same hoops, new football district
Zack Linscomb didn’t think the odds were going to be in favor of the Teague and Fairfield football teams being placed in a different district from Groesbeck and Mexia. After all, Teague is 13 miles from Mexia and not too much farther from Groesbeck. Not to mention the Lions face the Goats and Blackcats in the Olympic or non-football sports. Yet, the UIL pulled a Jeff Bridges and went against all odds by doing just that. Linscomb, Teague’s head football coach, will guide his Lions through District 9-3A-Division I against Freestone County rival Fairfield, Crockett, Diboll, Huntington and Westwood. “We knew there was...
