The Teague softball team picked up wins against Fairfield, 11-8, and Mexia, 15-0, last week.

The Lady Lions (18-7, 9-1 in District 20-3A) can clinch a playoff berth with a win at Westwood on Friday. That game starts at 7 p.m., and Teague also hosts Buffalo at 6 p.m. Monday.

    TEAGUE 11, FAIRFIELD 8

Despite being outhit, 9-7, and committing four errors, the Lady Lions used the pitching of Kaylee Cuevas and took advantage of 10 walks to hang on for an 11-8 victory against Fairfield on April 2 in Teague. With the win, Teague completed a season-series sweep of its county rival.

Cuevas struck out 12 batters despite giving up eight runs against the high-octane Fairfield offense. She also excelled at the plate (3-4, RBI).

Keely Mathis (2-5, 2 RBI) also had multiple hits. Laynee Morrow (14, BB, RBI) and Cate Satterwhite (12, 2 BB, 3 RBI) also contributed.

    TEAGUE 15, MEXIA 0

The Lady Lions exploded for 15 runs on 11 hits in a 15-0 rout of Mexia last Friday in Teague. The game was called in the bottom of the fourth inning because of the 15-run rule.

With the win, Teague also completed a season-series sweep of Mexia. Eight Lady Lions recorded hits in the win.

Cuevas (2-2, BB, HR, 4 RBI), Mathis (2-2, 2 BB) and Morrow (24, 3B, 2 RBI) led Teague at the plate. Satterwhite (1-2, BB), Preslee Barkouskie (1-1, 3B, 2 RBI), Andrea James (1-2, 2 RBI), Addison Jones (12, BB, 2B, 2 RBI) and Reese Stacks (1-2, BB) also contributed.
