The pandemic has hit the job sector quite hard. Millions have lost their jobs worldwide due to the economic effects of lockdown caused by the spread of the virus. The same was the case for people in the counties of San Joaquin and Stanislaus. With many families left jobless, people have been searching for a reliable job opportunity for a long time.

Among all this chaos and uncertainty, the world fast-food giant- McDonald's has come to the rescue. It has started a unique initiative to save people from their plight. This initiative has brought a ray of hope to many who had been on the receiving end of the Coronavirus's impact on the job sector.

McDonald's has decided to start a mega job drive in the counties of San Joaquin and Stanislaus. It will be offering a total of 650 jobs that will be scattered around its chain of 31 restaurants across the two counties.

Seeing the state of employment in these two counties, the fast-food giant has taken this step with the hope of bringing employment and earning opportunities to the families who have been out of work since the beginning of the pandemic.

How will the hiring event be conducted?

However, the restaurant chain is well aware that the pandemic is not over and does not want to compromise on the safety of the applicants and its staff. This is why they have finalized an equally unique procedure to conduct the interview and hire new employees in these two counties.

The company wanted to ensure that they can conduct the interview properly while ensuring all safety protocols so that either aspect does not intervene with the other. So, they organized an unprecedented system of conducting interviews- by a drive-thru method.

Drive-thru interview- one of its kind

The restaurant chain manager, Mr. Jason Roth, stated that they wanted to ensure that all the interviews were conducted face-to-face. This was done to ensure all the guidelines of hiring a staff member were followed properly. But at the same time, they also wanted to make sure that they did not jeopardize anybody's safety in the process. This is why a drive-thru interview was the perfect solution to all their problems.

So in the interview, every applicant was allowed to have a conversation with the manager, Mr. Roth, while sitting inside their cars. The interview process was conducted rather smoothly, and there were no major hiccups. Hence, this unique idea was a success.

The manager, Mr. Roth, also stated that the company was aware of the importance of the jobs it provided in these trying times. Considering the number of families suffering from loss of jobs, this initiative could be their means of supporting their families. Thus, these interviews are way more important than what they might appear.

Many fast-food chains like McDonald's are known for offering part-time jobs to teens and other people as a source of some additional income. But this was not the case anymore. This pandemic has stripped people of their luxuries, making them struggle for even bare necessities. Thus, these jobs are now way more important to people than they have ever been in the past.

    The reaction of local people

Quite naturally, this initiative by McDonald's has garnered very positive responses among the local people. While many people see this as an opportunity to earn to support their families, many others see this as a way of spending their time productively instead of just sitting at home.

The pandemic has brought one thing in ample amounts for everyone. That is time. With so much time at hand, people are looking for ways to spend it fruitfully and not waste all of it sitting idle at home. So this job opportunity came as an ideal way for them to do just that.

Many influential people have also opined that this hiring event signifies a lot more than just offering jobs. It is a sign that now the situation is gradually normalizing. With so many people ready to take these jobs, it shows that now people are over the damage caused by this pandemic and ready to move on in their lives.

    McDonald's- throughout the pandemic

The manager, Mr. Roth, informed that all the company's quick-serve restaurants have been making good profits throughout the pandemic. So they were in a good position to hire and support new staff members who might need a job. While dining in restaurants was shut due to the COVID-19 guidelines, their drive-thru restaurants have actually been doing pretty well with an upsurge in customers' numbers.

The restaurant authorities are also expecting that guidelines in San Joaquin and Stanislaus' counties will be relaxed pretty soon, allowing them to open their dine-in restaurants for the public. Once these counties move to a different tier, new procedures will be announced for all the restaurants, and they can begin functioning accordingly. Meanwhile, virtual interviews also take place for those who might have missed out on the drive-thru hiring event.
