IdeaTek expands to Ark City
ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas — Super-fast fiber internet service will soon be available to hundreds of Arkansas City families and businesses, thanks to IdeaTek. The Buhler-based internet company will begin construction in August. By fall, IdeaTek will begin delivering unlimited and uncapped speeds of up to 2.5 gigabits per second to the city’s first few neighborhoods. IdeaTek's 100-percent fiber investment of nearly $6 million will connect over 6,100 homes and businesses to fiber.
Wichita officers granted immunity in lawsuit over teen’s death
A federal judge has ruled that seven Wichita police officers are entitled to qualified immunity in a civil lawsuit over the in-custody death of a teenager. The lawsuit is over the death of 17-year-old Cedric Lofton, who became unresponsive while being restrained following an altercation at the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center (JIAC) in Wichita on September 21st, 2021. He died at a hospital two days later, and the death prompted a review of policies and practices at the facility, along with the creation of a task force that made a number of recommendations for the juvenile justice system.

Renewable energy storage company to lease Great Bend property
Takkion Operating LLC, a logistics and transloading provider for renewable energy, will be creating a space in Great Bend. There are currently 14.6 acres of land on the north end of the Great Bend Municipal Airport that are being leased for storage. With WATCO leasing five acres of the parcel on a month-to-month contract, the Great Bend City Council approved a lease with Takkion for 9.6 acres.

He announced this week that his TeamSeas initiative has successfully removed over 34-million pounds of trash from the ocean. The project, launched by MrBeast and fellow YouTuber Mark Rober in October 2021, aimed to raise $30-million to remove 30-million pounds of trash from the world’s oceans and rivers. Two days ago, MrBeast shared that TeamSeas exceeded their goal, removing 34,080,191 pounds of trash from oceans worldwide.
