LIVONIA — A former Tecumseh and Siena Heights standout is now leading another lacrosse program as Shane Lewandowski was recently named the next head coach of Lawrence Tech men's lacrosse.

LTU director of athletics Mary Ann Meltzer tabbed Lewandowski after he served as an assistant this past season under Paul Nemzek, who was 40-37 in his seven seasons as head coach .

"Shane built positive, impactful relationships with our student-athletes in his first season on the men's lacrosse coaching staff this spring," Meltzer said in a press release. "His offensive acumen resulted in an uptick in scoring offense by the team during the second half of the season and a man-up efficiency at 44.4 percent that ranked first in the conference and third in the nation. He has earned this opportunity to be a first-time head coach and I look forward to watching him continue to develop this program into a WHAC contender."

Scoring has been Lewandowski's style since his playing days in Tecumseh. He led the program until his senior season in 2014 and then moved on to the SHU where he ranks among the best in program history.

Lewandowski ranks third all-time in goals (130) and points (182) and seventh in assists (52). When he graduated, he was the record holder in goals.

Since graduating, he hasn't left the sport and transitioned into coaching. Prior to his season as an assistant for the Blue Devils in 2024, he was an assistant at fellow WHAC-member Rochester on the women's team. He's also coached at the club level with Betta Lax, Lenawee Youth Lacrosse and All American Lacrosse.

"It is an honor and humbling to be selected as the next head coach for LTU Men's Lacrosse," Lewandowski said in the release. "I would like to thank the athletics department for their confidence in me, the current LTU players for believing in me, and my family for their unwavering support.

"My vision for the program is a championship-level lacrosse team with a roster that is made up of only the best and brightest student-athletes from around the country. I had the time of my life playing lacrosse in the WHAC and I am most excited to provide our players with a positive and memorable college lacrosse playing experience. I am really looking forward to being tested as a coach."

Lewandowski is the third head coach in program history, which is 50-41 in eight seasons.
