The city of mysterious Bishop Brown’s haunted house, Galion, once again prepares to witness the unknown.

The Magical Moon gift shop will be the site of Crawford County's first Witches' Market, planned for every other Saturday from June-August, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., in the shop's parking lot, 1102 Harding Way East.

“It showcases local artists,” said Ellen Moon, owner of The Magical Moon. “I'm super excited to bring a lot of people together.”

    Who sells what

She said she knew a lot of her vendors through other events and displays, including the sale in her own shop, and she loves their work. Moon said the items the vendors offered for the Witches Market are unique. The oddities include skulls and artwork that incorporates flowers and animal bones.

“There's a lot of oddities, and just things that you wouldn't normally see,” Moon said.

There also will be tumblers, handmade jewelry themed around horror movies, body jewelry, prints and greeting cards and wood art.

Moon said due to limited space in the parking lot, around 10 vendors will set up each month, rotating throughout the summer. Moon said she will continue to look for new vendors for the Witches Market.

One of the vendors is Dani Sheridan, has been a vendor at The Magical Moon for over a year, and decided to participate in the market because she thought it was a great opportunity.

Sheridan specializes in animal preservation and memorials made of bones and vegetation.

Sheridan said she with her alternative type of art participates in a few similar events in the area including Mansfield Music Fest, Halloween in July in Circleville, and Pride celebrations. She said she typically brings her larger art pieces, such as frames, to such events in comparison to what she sells at the local shops.

Significance of the market for the community

Moon said she has been to witches' markets in the past in other communities, and decided she could organize one in Galion as part of the community summer activities aimed at attracting more tourists and visitors and contributing to the business growth.

“My shop is on a very busy street,” Moon said.
