Long John Silver's returns to Oak Ridge 'shores'

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that morning and for days afterward there were long lines of vehicles in the drive through.
“Chopped" winner David Ho heads to Arlington for K12 National Cook-Off
ARLINGTON, Va. - "Chopped" winner David Ho is heading to Arlington to participate in a kid's cooking competition. A Loudon County native, Ho will judge the K12 National Cook-Off being held at Kitchen of Purpose on Saturday, July 13 in Arlington. Celebrity chef Isabel Coss and Kitchen of Purpose director of programs Daniela Hurtado will serve alongside Ho as judges.

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s summer athletic dead period, which sees the stop of any school organization practices and workouts on school property, is in full swing from June 23 through July 7. One local business is giving back to the community in a unique way. Oak Ridge area women invited to Patriotic Celebration Luncheon July 9
All Oak Ridge area women and their guests are invited to a "Patriotic Celebration Luncheon" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9. It will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, 215 S. Illinois Ave., Oak Ridge. Join in the musical celebration of Independence Day as presented by the local group, The Recollections. Following their presentation will be the inspirational guest speaker, Denita Arnold, who is from Louisville, Kentucky. She will share about her journey that began with heartache and despair, but has a happy ending. Her talk is titled, "A Fairytale Journey," according to a news release.

Farragut Parks & Rec adds adult programs
The Farragut Parks & Recreation Department is adding new programs to a growing catalog of activities geared toward adults: Book Club, Walking Club and pickup sports. Two local parades on July 4
Love a parade? There are two neighborhood ones on July 4th in Farragut or Powell. The Farragut Independence Day parade is an annual event from 9:30 a.m.- noon, beginning at intersection of Kingston Pike and Stadium Drive then traveling to Boring Road. Make sure to arrive early to snag the best seats to view the floats, bands, dancers, animals, antique cars and more.
