Home suffers damage after fire breaks out in basement, Knoxville Fire Department says
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Fire Department said a home suffered damage Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out in the basement. KFD said crews responded to the fire in the 4400 block of Norwalk Avenue at around 4:20 p.m. Sunday after a man called the Knox County Emergency Communications District and said his home was on fire.
Call for Entries for 31st Arts in the Airport at McGhee Tyson Airport
The Arts & Culture Alliance and Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority announce a call for entries for the 31st biannual Arts in the Airport at McGhee Tyson Airport, a juried exhibition developed to allow regional artists to compete and display work in the most visited site in the area. Approximately 40-45 fine art works encompassing all styles and genres from both emerging and established artists will comprise the exhibition in the secured area behind McGhee Tyson Airport’s security gate checkpoint from October 22, 2024 – April 2025. Prizes include $1,000 in cash awards.
Dogwood Arts Announces Large-Scale Mural Project in North Knoxville
Dogwood Arts and Visit Knoxville are excited to announce a large-scale public art project unlike any other in our area. The Chattanooga Red Wolves were on the road for Round 6 of the USL Jägermeister Cup to face One Knoxville SC. After a scoreless first half, Knoxville took a 1-0 lead through regulation time, but a late stoppage goal from Pedro Hernandez secured one point for the Red Wolves and sent the contest into penalty kicks, where Knoxville would pick up the extra point. The clubs will play their first league matches against one another on August 16th in Knoxville and will close out the 2024 series at CHI Memorial Stadium on October 5th.
17th Annual Arts In The Park – Call for Artists & Crafters
Arts In The Park is back for the 17th year on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 10 am to 4 pm, at Downtown on the Green & Farmers Market. Application Deadline August 28. Arts In The Park, “Art In The Heart of Hamblen County,” is a one-day celebration of visual arts—two-dimensional fine art, fine quality crafts, artistic photography, and sculpture. Applications from artists and crafters will be accepted through August 28.

River Riders drop series opener to Johnson City
The Elizabethton River Riders dropped their fifth game in a row on Saturday in the series opener to the Johnson City Doughboys, 5-3. Elizabethton (14-25) jumped out to an early lead against Johnson City (19-18) after Nick Hockemeyer (Purdue Fort Wayne) singled in the second to score two. Hockemeyer finished the night with one hit and two RBIs.
