Tempe warns about traffic restrictions, impacts for Boots in the Park

The city of Tempe released its list of traffic restrictions and impacts for the Boots in the Park country music party, advising residents to avoid traffic and parking hassles by taking transit to and from downtown Tempe.

A city release stated that Tempe has 13 local bus routes, six free Orbit circulators, the Streetcar and nine light rail stops. Passengers are encouraged to park at one of the following park-and-ride locations and ride rail:

Light rail and Streetcar connections:

• Dorsey Lane and Apache Road

Light rail connections:

• McClintock Drive and Apache Road
• Price Road and Apache Road

Street restrictions

Several Tempe streets will be closed or restricted for Boots in the Park on May 19. The following street restrictions and closures have been identified; however, others could be put in place to address public safety concerns that occur during the event, the release stated.

May 19, beginning at 7 a.m. until May 20 at 6 a.m.:

• Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway is closed between Hardy Drive and Mill Avenue.
• Westbound Rio Salado Parkway is closed between Mill Avenue and Lakeside Drive.
• Southbound Mill Avenue is closed between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Northbound Ash Avenue is closed at Third Street.
• Eastbound First Street is closed at Rio Salado Parkway.

Transit impacts

The following bus detours will be in effect from May 19, beginning of service to end of service:

• 48 Northbound: Regular route to Rio Salado Parkway/Hardy Drive, south on Hardy Drive to University Drive, east on University Drive to Ash Avenue, north on Ash Avenue to 5th Street, east on 5th Street to resume regular route.
• 48 Southbound: Regular route to 5th Street/Ash Avenue; south on Ash Avenue to University Drive, west on University Drive to Hardy Drive, north on Hardy Drive to Rio Salado Parkway, west on Rio Salado Parkway to resume regular route.
• 62 Northbound: Regular route to Hardy Drive/University Drive, east on University Drive to Ash Avenue, north on Ash Avenue to 5th Street, east on 5th Street to resume regular route.
• 62 Southbound: Regular route to 5th Street/Ash Avenue, south on Ash Avenue to University Drive, west on University Drive to Hardy Drive, south on Hardy Drive to resume regular route.
