Templeton celebrates newly resurfaced tennis courts: how the courts have been upgraded

Templeton's tennis courts have gotten an upgrade.

The newly resurfaced courts at Gilma Waite Park are now fenced, with new nets and freshly painted lines. In addition, there are painted yellow lines so that the courts may be used for pickleball as well.

The ribbon to courts was cut Tuesday evening, and the courts are now available for use, on a first-come first-served basis.

Candace Graves, chair of the town's Parks and Recreation Commission was delighted with the new courts.

"They had their origins in the 1970s or '80s," Graves said. "We went through the bid process twice, and Vermont Recreational Surfacing & Fencing did such a wonderful job."

    Combination courts

Graves said that the painted yellow lines are for pickleball, and that the nets have been installed at the lower height pickleballers use, with the ability to raise them as needed for tennis.

"We're really hoping the public will enjoy the new courts," Graves said.

Graves said that rules for the courts will be posted, and that the commission is working on an app that patrons can use to check the courts' availability.

Funds provided by the Community Preservation Committee

Graves said the total cost for the resurfacing, painting and fencing was $138,000, and that the funds were provided by the Community Preservation Committee following a town meeting vote.

"It really is a community project," she said.
