Haynes named to TSWA all-state team

NASHVILLE — Volunteer’s Connor Haynes was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A all-state baseball team released Tuesday. The TSWA announced all-state teams in four Division I and two Division II classifications.

The 2024 Volunteer graduate and King signee was also named to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 3A all-state team released June 17.

Haynes was a four-year starter for the Falcons and made his mark on the mound, at the plate, on the base paths and in the field. He was recognized on the TSWA all-state team as an outfielder. He hit .451 his senior season with 29 RBIs, 33 runs and 22 stolen bases.

The senior lefty picked up six wins, including the one that sent Volunteer to its first regional tournament in nearly three decades. He finished the season with a 2.11 ERA and 71 strikeouts.

Haynes is joined on the TSWA Class 3A all-state team by two other Twin Lakes Conference players, infielders Carson Quillen and Colton Richards of Greeneville. Haynes and Quillen shared the league’s Player of the Year honors. Richards was one of the league’s offensive players of the year.

Other Division 1 Northeast Tennessee honorees include outfielder Cooper Stevenson of University High in Class 1A, outfielder Mason McCamey of West Greene and utility player Christian Derry of Chuckey-Doak in Class 2A, outfielder Graham Jones of Daniel Boone and outfielder Josh Marmo of Science Hill in Class 4A. In Division II-A, Providence Academy had three players make the all-state squad, including catcher Rinaldo Matti, outfielder Nathan Eisfelder and pitcher Josh Owens.
