VIGO/SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update : Indiana American Water has confirmed the boil order for several Terre Haute and Farmersburg residents has been lifted, with one catch.

There are 17 customers in the Terre Haute area that remain under the boil water advisory. While test results came back good for the majority of customers, Indiana American Water External Affairs Manager Joel Reuter said that additional testing is required for the area covering these 17 customers.

The area remaining under the advisory includes East Harlan Drive (east of U.S. 41 and Bono Road south of Harlan Dr.) as well as the Fowler Park Campground and W. Keith Ruble Lake area.

“The company is conducting additional monitoring, with results expected Wednesday morning,” Reuter said. “Customers in this area will be notified if they signed up for alerts through Indiana American Water’s MyWater account, results will also be posted on our Customer Advisory Map .”

Original : Indiana American Water has extended a boil order for several Terre Haute and Farmersburg residents.

In an emailed statement, Indiana American Water said, the Boil Water Advisory (BWA) for Terre Haute and Farmersburg will be extended into Tuesday.

The Boil Water Advisories include 2,200 residents in Terre Haute, and another estimated 700 in a separate Boil Water Advisory in Farmersburg as the utility provides water to Sullivan Vigo Rural Water customers.

The utility stated that more details are to come, however, the overall system’s water pressure did not recover to the levels needed overnight, which is delaying the ability to test the water.  Those test results and the time to validate them is a primary reason why the BWA is still in place for both systems.

Indiana American Water said they hope to have an update on the advisory by noon Monday.

Early Sunday morning, Indiana American Water had water pressure loss in the south end of the Terre Haute operations system.

The cause of the water pressure loss was said to be due to a water main break in the median of South U.S. 150/41 near Gibault Children’s Services.

Indiana American Water said the main was located directly underneath a gas main that required the utility to work cautiously. Indiana American shut down the water in the main and replaced the section that failed. As a result, water was lost in both water towers in the pressure zone and had low water pressure throughout the zone.

Residents are encouraged to visit their website to review the status of water systems in the “Alerts” section at the top of the page.

The CDC’s guidance for how to properly boil water during these situations is as follows:

    • Fill a pot with water.
    • Heat the water until bubbles come from the bottom of the pot to the top.
    • Once the water reaches a rolling boil, let it boil for 1 minute.
    • Turn off the heat source and let the water cool.
    • Pour the water into a clean container with a cover for storage.
