    THPD: Driver arrested after pursuit ends in crash

    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase before crashing his car into a tree and attempting to flee on foot.

    According to the Terre Haute Police Department , the incident began just after 9 a.m. Monday when THPD officers were sent to the area of N. 22nd Street and 3rd Avenue for a report of a domestic dispute and stalking.

    When police arrived, the suspect had reportedly left the area. A short time later police spotted the suspect driving nearby and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, Jason Cunningham, 43, refused to pull over instead leading officers on a pursuit.

    The short pursuit ended when the driver drove into a tree near the intersection of N 16th Street and 3rd Avenue. Police said Cunningham attempted to flee the crash on foot, but was captured quickly.

    Cunningham was arrested on his active warrant for felony possession of a handgun without a license. Police are calling for additional charges of possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of a hypodermic syringe.

    Police said the man was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for injury and released and is now in custody at the Vigo County Jail.
