TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With a roster featuring 10 new players, new Indiana State Men’s Basketball Coach Matthew Graves needed the four returning players from last season to provide some veteran leadership.

They’ve all stepped up to the plate especially graduate student Aaron Gray.

“Being a leader this year, last year really helped me to become that,” Gray said. “I had a lot of great leadership on my team last year and a lot of guys took me under their wing and I’m just trying to do the same thing for these guys.”

“He’s a guy that last year had some expectations and didn’t get to showcase what his abilities are, and he’s really come in and done a great job leading these young guys, being in the gym, showing them by example, and working hard.” Graves said.

Gray entered the transfer portal for a brief period of time following the departure of former head coach Josh Schertz to Saint Louis University. However, Gray came back to ISU, in large part due to the outstanding community from Sycamore nation.

” I’ve never been a part of something like this. The community is very supportive. That’s part of the reason why I’m here. I went into the portal for a little bit, but nothing really felt like home here in Terredise.” Gray said.
