TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A statue unveiling took place at 12 Points in Terre Haute.

The piece is a wooden sculpture of Walter Phillips, who laid the foundation for what would become the 12 Points area in 1889. The sculpture was carved by Joseph McCarthy, and also includes the addition of swings thanks to a grant from the United Way of Wabash Valley.

Jim Jeffers of 12 Points Revitalization says that there is still a lot to be done.

“Things just progressed and when Joseph got it done, he brought it out and set it,” Jeffers said. “About the same time we put up the swings and laid some concrete. There’s more to be done, but we are ready to open it for public use, which has been used a lot already.”

Jeffers also noted that 12 Points Revitalization will look to add more statues in the future.
