VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, kicked off their We Can Campaign at the Vigo County Fair.

This is the second year for the campaign which collects aluminum cans to then be recycled. The money from the recycling then goes to CASA to help provide support for children dealing with court cases in the Vigo County.

The goal for this year’s campaign is to collect 10,000 pounds of aluminum cans.

Last year’s event was successful, raising $2,000 for CASA.

CASA Director Glenna Cheeseman said the money raised provides multiple services for area children.

“We provide immediate assistance with hygiene products, immediate needs,” Cheeseman said. “We also do special events like our Back-To School program, as well as Christmas In Whoville. All the donations we receive stay right here in Vigo County to help serve the abused and adopted children we serve.”

If you are interested in donating cans, you can stop by the CASA fair booth at the Vigo County Fair. You can also drop cans off at the CASA office (at 141 Oak Street), or at Mervis Recycling in Terre Haute.

If you opt to take them directly to the recycling center, let them know you are donating to the We Can Campaign for CASA and they will take care of the rest.

Cheeseman said the fundraising effort will continue beyond the Vigo County Fair, and encourages locals to continue to donate cans to the cause. There are plans to have containers at businesses around town as well.
