TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Local residents are still in shock after the attempted assassination of former president Trump on July 13.

Many people have spoken out in the aftermath of the shooting. However, most people around Deming Park in Terre Haute found out in different ways. Terre Haute resident Jill Trueblood says her family was watching regular TV programming.

“We were watching Shark Week of course,” Trueblood said. “My husband got a phone call from his buddy Jim and said, ‘hey, you better turn it to the station’ so we turned it and of course everything had just happened. Then to see it play over again and over and over, we were just devastated. We couldn’t believe that something like this had happened.”

A lot has changed since the last time something like this happened. Some people like Brazil resident Antoney Bryan found out on social media as the reports spread quickly.

“I was on social media, i believe X or Twitter or whatever,” Bryan said. “I saw it on there and kind of didn’t believe it at first until you do more research into it and it’s true.”

Locals are still processing everything that took place, but Brazil resident Pierce Ross says he is glad that Trump is okay.

“The end result wasn’t good at all, but at least he was safe,” Ross said. “I don’t know, it was crazy, just everything yesterday and everyone went to a lot of assumptions immediately in the first hour or two after and it’s always hard to watch.”

The general consensus from the public is that July 13 will be talked about for quite some time.
