On Tuesday, a board meeting was held by the Calvert Independent School District.
The topic was the future of their historic school building, which was recently vacated.
For over a century, this structure, still sound despite its age, served many generations of Calvert students.
District Superintendent, Thyrun Hurst, assured that the decision about the building's future would be a joint one.
The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and the local community will also contribute.
Demolition and establishing a historical marker are among the potential outcomes but no decision was taken at the meeting.
Community members have suggested preserving the building for possible uses like after-school programs.
Hurst reinforced the importance of making financial decisions that serve students and the community in the long run.
