    Schertz: San Antonio’s Not-So-Secret Weapon

First up, there’s Schertz, a San Antonio suburb that’s got a lot going for it.

“With San Antonio growing like crazy, Schertz has seen a large increase in population,” Johnson said. “Sitting on San Antonio’s northeast side, Schertz is located on Interstate 35 with a 20-minute drive to downtown San Antonio and an hour drive to Austin.”

Johnson added, “The suburb has homeownership of about 75%. The livability, schools and strong real estate market make this one of my top choices for Texas suburbs to buy a house in the next five years.”

    The Woodlands: Houston’s Tree-Hugger Paradise

Next on our list is The Woodlands, perfect for people who love wide open green spaces.

“I’ve heard people describe The Woodlands as a place where everything is literally behind trees and greenery. As a suburb of the great concrete sprawl of Houston, that sounds like a lovely place to live,” Johnson said.

All of this means it’s a bit more expensive than some of the other locales – but Johnson says it’s worth it. “Being within easy commuting distance, it has had a strong real estate market and is on the more expensive side with median prices near $675,000. This is more than a 10% increase over 2023,” he shared.

But remember, you get what you pay for. “For this reason, The Woodlands is a great Texas suburb to buy a house in the next five years,” Johnson said.

University Park: Dallas’ Mini Beverly Hills

Ever wanted to live the luxe lifestyle of Beverly Hills but can’t stand the thought of leaving Texas? Well, Johnson has the ritzy location for you.

“Just five miles from downtown Dallas, University Park is a beautiful suburb that attracts a lot of young professionals,” Johnson said. “The suburb was actually planned by the same developers that planned Beverly Hills.”

And the city services are world-class, too. With utilities, police and emergency services all provided by the suburb (which is just four square miles), University Park is “extremely safe,” said Johnson. It should be noted that it’s a pretty expensive place to call home, though — with median sale prices sitting around $2.2 million, per Redfin data.

Frisco: Where Football Meets Silicon Valley

If you’re looking for a place that’s part NFL, part tech hub and all Texas, the Dallas suburb of Frisco’s got your number.

“Frisco has a denser suburban feel with a relatively lower crime rate – second-safest in Texas,” Johnson said. “This is a great suburb for families and young professionals. There is a growing tech presence in Frisco that makes for better-paying jobs.”

And for you sports fans out there, there’s the added bonus of Frisco being the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Alamo Heights: San Antonio’s Cute-as-a-Button Neighbor

Last but not least, we’ve got Alamo Heights, the suburb that couldn’t be more picturesque.

“Just two miles from downtown San Antonio, Alamo Heights has historic charm, a small-town feel and great local-owned shops in abundance,” Johnson shared. “I often feel like each house could be something seen as a family home in a movie, they are just that darn cute!”

But it’s not just about looks – the central location and easy access to the highways means it’s a quick jaunt to nearby San Antonio. But if you’re not looking to leave the neighborhood, Johnson shares that the Pearl district brings world-class shopping, dining and hotels within a couple-minute drive.

His final verdict? “This suburb is highly desirable and one of my top choices to buy a house within the next five years,” Johnson shared.
