    Two Olney Band students win big at 2024 Wichita Falls Symphony League Scholarship Competition

    WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Two Olney High School Band students won big at the recent 2024 Wichita Falls Symphony League Scholarship Competition .

    Junior oboist Lily Thames and freshman bassoonist Maddox Johnson were awarded for their musical talents on Saturday, April 13 in the Woodwinds-Brass-Percussion Division of the competition, according to OHS Band officials.

    According to band officials, Thames received third place, marked by a certificate and a $300 prize.

    Johnson received an Honorable Mention award.

    Awards were also given to students in the Vocal, Strings and Piano Divisions at the competition, held at MSU-Texas’ Fine Arts Building.

    First-place winners will perform at the Wichita Falls Symphony League’s luncheon in May.

    According to Olney High School Band officials, band directors Dr. Rodney Bennett and Marilyn Bennett attended the event, and Laura Pease accompanied both students on piano.
