    Portions of Texoma under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

    UPDATE: Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 2:25 p.m.

    The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Montague County until 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

    At 1:55, a severe thunderstorm was located near Newport, 9 miles west of Bowie, moving east at 35 miles per hour. Potential hazards include wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and half-dollar-sized hail.

    The storm is expected to impact Bowie at 2 p.m. and Saint Jo around 2:35 p.m. Other locations impacted include Stoneburg, Mallard, Fruitland, Montague, and Forestburg.

    The National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for portions of Jack and Montague Counties until 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

    NWS officials said at 12:36 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Jacksboro, moving east at 35 miles per hour. Potential hazards included with this warning are tennis-ball-sized hail.

    • Near Bridgeport around 12:55 p.m.
    • Near Chico around 1 p.m.
    • Near Alvord around 1:10 pm.

    The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Clay and Wichita Counties in Texas, as well as portions of Cotton and Jefferson Counties in Oklahoma, until 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

    At 12:09 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over southeastern Wichita Falls, moving northeast at 40 miles per hour. Hazards included in this warning include ping-pong-ball-sized hail.

    Potentially impacted locations include Wichita Falls, Waurika, Temple, Petrolia, Byers, Dean, Randlett, Hastings, Sheppard AFB, Lakeside City, Pleasant Valley, Taylor, Charlie, and Cashion.

    A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 7 p.m. for Archer, Clay, and Wichita Counties in Texas, as well as Cotton, Jefferson, and Stephens Counties in Oklahoma.

    The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Archer, Clay, and Wichita Counties that will be in effect until 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

    NWS officials said at 11:33 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles southeast of Lake Kickapoo, moving northeast at 40 miles per hour. Hazards include half-dollar-sized hail.

    Areas that could be impacted by this storm include Wichita Falls, Archer City, Holliday, Scotland, Dean, Jolly, Lake Arrowhead, Sheppard AFB, Lake Kickapoo, Lakeside City, and Pleasant Valley.


    TEXOMA ( KFDX/KJTL ) — On the heels of a cold front, the possibility of severe weather exists for a portion of Texoma on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

    The National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Young County in Texas in effect until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

    NWS official said at 11 a.m. on Thursday, a severe thunderstorm was located near Elbert, about 13 miles southwest of Olney, moving northeast at 55 miles per hour. Potential hazards include wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour and quarter-sized hail.

    The storm will be near Olney at around 11:10 a.m. on Thursday. Other locations impacted by this storm include Newcastle, Jean, Padgett, Murray, and Loving.

    According to Chief Meteorologist Michael Bohling , a few severe storms will be possible on Thursday in the southeastern corner of Texoma, with the best chances happening in Clay, Montague, Young, and Jack Counties.
