Team of the week: Iowa Park softball – May 23, 2024

Our Texoma team of the week honor goes to the Iowa Park softball squad! The Lady Hawks are the last local softball team still playing in the 2024 postseason.

Eric Simmons and company are making their third regional final appearance in the last four years, however this trip to the fifth round of the playoffs might be the most surprising.

After graduating eight seniors, and welcoming in seven players without any prior varsity experience, the Lady Hawks are embracing the underdog mentality and proving any doubters wrong.

“Early in the season, we didn’t have it figured out as a coaching staff and we didn’t have people in the right places,” head coach Eric Simmons said. “But we continued to work hard day in and day out and it has kind of gotten us to this point.”

Iowa Park will battle Coahoma in the regional final, with a trip to Round Rock for the state tournament on the line. It’s a one game playoff, scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m. in Graham at Hogan Field.
