    Multiple agencies responding to grass fire near Rifle Range Road

    UPDATE: In what Wichita West VFD said was their last update as all their members have been cleared from the scene, the Peter Switch Fire is 75% contained as of 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 18. Many other agencies have also been released from the scene. Crews will continue to ensure the fire remains contained within the containment boundary.

    All donations going forward can be taken to your local fire department or dropped off at Wichita West VFD who will share with the departments in the area.

    UPDATED(7 p.m.): For those who want to help our local emergency personnel, all donations can be taken to the Wichita West VFD station at 7622 Seymour Hwy in Wichita Falls. They are grateful for everything that has been donated thus far.

    UPDATE: As of 6:30 p.m., a dozer containment line has been put in on the East side of the fire. Wichita West VFD is reporting the fire is now 40% contained.

    Rifle Range Rd. has reopened, but Peterson Rd. north of Bacon Switch is closed. Panhandle Rd. is closed. Riley Ranch Loop from Panhandle Rd. to Easter Rd. is closed and Easter Rd. is closed.

    Airdrops are continuing and emergency personnel are asking that citizens not fly any drones in the area.

    UPDATE: At 5:30 p.m., Wichita West VFD reported that the fire spread has slowed. It is now listed at 925 acres and 25% contained. Threatened houses continue to be protected and crews continue to work to contain the blaze.

    UPDATE: As of 5 p.m., the Peter Switch Fire continues to spread to the North. It has jumped Wyeth School Rd. near Panhandle Rd. Structures are threatened, and evacuations are being done on Easter Rd as crews use their resources to protect life and property.

    UPDATE: As of 4 p.m., the Peter Switch Fire is now approximately 450 acres and remains 0% contained. Large and small air tankers have been assisting with drops, but the fire has jumped both Peterson Rd. and Griffin Rd. Burnout operations are being conducted around threatened structures.

    Emergency personnel are asking that people avoid the area as they have had personal vehicles blocking access for emergency vehicles.

    WICHITA COUNTY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Multiple agencies are on the scene of a grassfire that is approximately 200 acres and spreading. It is currently at 0% containment.

    Iowa Park Volunteer Fire responded to a fire around 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 18.

    The fire, dubbed the Peter Switch Fire, started in the 5500 block of Rifle Range Road.

    Wichita West Volunteer Fire Department said no structures are in immediate danger, but it is spreading to the North.
