ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A new approach to lower gun violence in Roanoke was discussed in Tuesday’s Gun Violence Prevention Commission meeting. To help reduce violent crimes, Roanoke’s Gun Violence Commission introduced the Gun Violence Intervention Program, or GVI. Roanoke firefighter treated for heat exhaustion after evening fire
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke Fire & EMS reports a firefighter has been treated for heat exhaustion after an apartment fire that occurred on the evening of July 15. According to fire officials, around 7:49 p.m. on Monday, crews responded to the 2000 block of Lynn Ave SW after an odor was reported.
Six killed in traffic crashes on Virginia highways over holiday
Preliminary data indicates six individuals lost their lives in six traffic crashes during the five-day statistical counting period designated for the July 4, 2024, holiday. Of those who died, one was a pedestrian struck in a hit-and-run crash, four were drivers and one was a passenger. The fatal crashes took place in the City of Richmond and the counties of Bedford, Charles City, Henrico and Wythe counties. Two of the fatal crashes occurred in Bedford County. During the two-day statistical counting period for July 4, 2023, traffic crashes claimed seven lives on Virginia’s highways.
