Boyle County Performing Arts Center season starts Oct. 4

The Boyle County Performing Arts Center, located in Boyle County Middle School, will kick off its upcoming season on Oct. 4 with a sold-out showing of “Charlotte’s Web.”

“We at the BCPAC are thrilled at the growth we have experienced within the last year,” said BCPAC Director Jimmy Cornn. “We want to thank all the businesses and patrons that supported us in our first season. That support helped propel us into this new year of shows. We are proud of the season we have curated for our community and hope even more people join us this year.”

Following “Charlotte’s Web,” there will be a performance by acclaimed vocalist Lauren Jelencovich on Oct. 16 at 7:00 P.M. Known for her stunning portrayals in opera and musical theater, Lauren is currently on a world tour with Yanni, enchanting audiences across the globe. This concert will feature a diverse array of musical styles, ranging from opera to Broadway to pop, and the Boyle County Schools Choirs will join her for a grand finale that is sure to be a memorable highlight of the evening. The performance is suitable for all ages, lasting approximately 90 minutes.

Just a week later, from Oct. 24 to Nov. 2, the Boyle County High School Theatre Department will present the chilling adaptation of “Dracula.” This dark and thrilling retelling of Bram Stoker’s classic tale follows Professor Van Helsing and his courageous friends as they confront the cunning Count Dracula. Featuring action-packed scenes and supernatural elements, the production is set to engage older students and adults, with an approximate running time of 100 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. Due to its mature themes, it is recommended for grades seven and up.

Families can look forward to a magical experience with Lightwire Theatre’s “A Very Electric Christmas” on Nov. 25 at 6:30 P.M. Lightwire Theatre puts on unique shows that rely on visual effects rather than dialogue. Performers move fantastical lights around the stage to tell a narrative. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this enchanting holiday production tells the story of Max, a young bird who becomes lost at the North Pole. As he navigates this whimsical world filled with colorful characters like caroling worms and Nutcracker soldiers, audiences of all ages will be mesmerized by the unique combination of puppetry and dazzling light effects. The performance runs for 60 minutes and is family-friendly. The BCPAC hosted Lightwire Theatre during their season last year, which Cornn said was a major success.

On Dec. 12 at 7:00 P.M, the spirit of Christmas will be captured through the joyous sounds of the Dallas Brass. Their concert, titled “A Merry Christmas with Brass,” will feature a range of holiday favorites that celebrate the season’s magic, from “Deck the Halls” to selections from “The Nutcracker Suite.” With the addition of the Boyle County High School Band for a grand finale, this festive performance promises to bring joy to audiences of all ages, lasting about 90 minutes.

The New Year will kick off with a roaring adventure on Jan. 24 and 25, as “Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo LIVE!” transports families back in time to witness life-like dinosaurs on stage. This interactive performance, designed to engage children’s imaginations, features over 19 magnificent dinosaurs and gives young audience members the chance to meet and learn about these incredible creatures. This fun and educational show lasts about 60 minutes and is perfect for grades K through 8.

Coming on Feb. 26 at 6:30 P.M., families can experience the beloved “Fraggle Rock” characters in Jim Henson’s “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock LIVE.” In this all-new musical adventure, Gobo, Red, Mokey, Wembley, and Boober embark on a quest to restore the ancient Celebration Stone. With new puppetry, immersive effects, and beloved songs, this show creates an unforgettable experience perfect for both young children and nostalgic fans of the original series. The performance, suitable for all ages, will run for 60 minutes, interspersed with a 20-minute intermission.

As March approaches, the magic of Ireland will take center stage with “Ireland With Michael” on March 15 at 7:00 P.M. This multimedia concert features acclaimed tenor Michael Londra, who weaves together music, dance, and storytelling against a backdrop of stunning imagery from his PBS travel series. Celebrating Irish culture, this immersive experience will transport the audience across the Atlantic, making it a fitting tribute to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day. The show lasts approximately 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.

On March 20, audiences can join Ms. Frizzle and her class for an exhilarating ride in “The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System” at 10:00 A.M. and again at 6:30 P.M. The performance is part of the Page to Stage Series with the Boyle County Public Library. This delightful musical adaptation finds the class lost on their way to the planetarium, leading to an adventurous interstellar journey filled with fun and teamwork. The performance is designed for grades K through five, with a runtime of 60 minutes.

Finally, from April 10 to April 19, the Boyle County High School Theatre Department will present the ever-popular musical “Grease.” This energetic production explores the highs and lows of teenage romance through the relationship of Sandy and Danny at Rydell High. Filled with iconic songs and vibrant choreography, this nostalgic tribute to youth promises to delight audiences, running for approximately 120 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Due to mild language and themes, the performance is recommended for grades six and up.
