Local arrowheads to be featured in PCI exhibit

Historical Society meeting to be held at gallery

Bobby and Tammy Davis recently visited the Three Notch Museum where they helped to identify and label the names of the various arrowheads in the museum’s collection. A shadow box containing these vintage arrowheads will be on display at the Cotton Street Gallery as part of its Poarch Band of Creek Indians exhibit, celebrating the tribe’s rich history of handcrafted regalia and traditional art.

The arrowheads will be on display at the exhibit through the month of September. The exhibition will be open to the public Tuesday, August 27, through Saturday, August 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from Thursday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the months of September and October. Donations are welcome and will go to support AIR Artists, Inc.

“It is absolutely amazing to have proof from arrowheads found in Covington County that there were actually human beings living here in 10,000 B.C. It is hard to imagine that,” said Three Notch Museum Committee Chairman Sue Wilson.

The monthly meeting of the Covington County Historical Society will also be held at the Cotton Street Gallery on Thursday, August 29, beginning at 6 p.m. Stephen Potts from the PCI tribe will be the speaker at the meeting. Members are encouraged to attend and invite guests.

“We look forward to seeing this magnificent array of artifacts that has been carefully created to preserve the history of Covington’s earliest residents,” Wilson said.

The Cotton Street Gallery exhibit, sponsored by Air Artists, Inc. in cooperation with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, will feature a unique collection of artifacts, artwork, regalia, and other memorabilia including the arrowhead collection on loan from the Three Notch Museum. Sue Williams Wiggins of AirArtists, Inc. and the Cotton Street Gallery are the sponsors of this program.
