It's been almost three months since Whataburger held its groundbreaking event to celebrate the construction of its upcoming restaurant at 2900 N. Main St. in Anderson County.

Anderson will host its grand opening on Monday, August 26, at 11 a.m. The dining room and the drive-through will open, and special promotions will be offered.

The first two people entering the restaurant and using the drive-thru will receive free Whataburger for a year, and the first 200 will receive a Whataburger swag bag.

Whataburger's Operations Leader, Preston Hughes, said the upcoming restaurant in Anderson will have an "open-concept dining room and a state-of-the-art kitchen to serve guests."

Never had Whataburger? Here's what to know

Harmon Dobson opened a Whataburger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, in August 1950. He aimed to create a delicious burger that would prompt customers to say , "What a burger!" Seventy-four years later, the eatery has expanded to more than 1,030 locations across its 16-state footprint.

Whataburger is best known for its famous orange and white striped A-frame storefront, inspired by Dobson's love of flying, customizable burgers, and classic fries. In 1962, the Whataburger menu grew with the addition of fried pies and French fries.

“Bringing Whataburger to South Carolina is a dream come true for me," said Whataburger President and CEO Ed Nelson . "As a native son, I’ve always known that our state’s rich culture and warm hospitality would be the perfect match for Whataburger’s tradition of bold flavors and extraordinary service.”
