The Notre Dame men’s basketball team continues to make waves overseas as they journey through Spain on a foreign tour, slated to wrap up on August 15. This tour serves as a key moment for the Fighting Irish, allowing the team to strengthen their bonds and sharpen their skills ahead of the upcoming season.

After securing a decisive 89-65 victory against the Madrid All-Stars earlier in the tour, Notre Dame faced off against the Valencia All-Stars on Sunday. The team once again showcased their prowess, claiming a 78-60 win in Valencia.

While these games provide the team with crucial on-court experience, head coach Micah Shrewsberry emphasized that the practices hold even greater significance for him. Speaking at a news conference last month, Shrewsberry likened the experience to a summer league, highlighting the value of allowing his assistant coaches to take the reins during games.

“These games are really important in Spain, but like these practices are really important for me,” Shrewsberry stated. “I’m going to almost treat it like summer league and allow our assistant coaches to take a game and coach.”

With a hint of humor, he added, “Actually, some of the places will be really nice. I might not even show up to the games. Be on the bench and be on the beach in Valencia.”

As the team continues their tour, which includes visits to Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona, these experiences are expected to play a vital role in building the team’s chemistry and preparing them for the challenges of the upcoming season.
