South Bend, Ind. — As the Notre Dame Fighting Irish gear up for their season opener against Texas A&M, head coach Marcus Freeman expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance during a high-energy preseason scrimmage held at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday.

The scrimmage, a crucial tune-up for the season, saw the Irish executing around 100 plays, with the offense emerging victorious. Freeman emphasized the significance of the opening drive and defensive takeaways, two areas that stood out during the practice. The offense demonstrated efficiency by securing nine first downs on their initial drive, while the defense made their mark by forcing two turnovers.

Freeman, reflecting on the scrimmage, lauded the competitive spirit displayed by both sides of the ball. “It was the best jersey scrimmage I have been a part of,” Freeman said. “The energy and competition throughout the practice were exceptional. We had some players take a few live reps before we pulled them, but overall, it was impressive. I informed our coaching staff that this is the most prepared group I’ve been involved with.”

With the season opener against Texas A&M on August 31 fast approaching, the Fighting Irish appear poised and focused. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on ABC.
