SOUTH BEND, IN — The South Shore Line, a vital lifeline connecting South Bend to Chicago, has rolled out a new schedule, responding to months of customer feedback on their recent double track project. The revised timetable, introduced on Tuesday, is designed to offer more efficient and timely train services, addressing commuters' demands for quicker and more reliable transportation.

In a real-world test of the new schedule, a ride on Train #24 from South Bend to Millennium Station revealed mixed results. While the South Shore Line mobile app estimated the journey would take two hours and four minutes, the actual trip clocked in at two hours and 19 minutes—15 minutes longer than anticipated. However, the return journey was nearly seamless, with the train departing at 4:05 p.m. CT and arriving back in South Bend at 7:01 p.m. ET, just one minute beyond the predicted one hour and 55 minutes.

Mike Noland, President of the South Shore Line, highlighted a key improvement in the new schedule: a strategy to avoid delays caused by trailing behind Chicago Metra trains. This adjustment is expected to significantly reduce stoppages, ensuring a smoother experience for passengers.

One of the most exciting updates for riders is the addition of a late-night train on weekends. Now, sports fans and event-goers in Chicago can enjoy the full experience without the worry of missing the last train back to South Bend. The new post-11 p.m. service ensures a hassle-free return, catering to those who want to savor every moment of their time in the city.

As the South Shore Line continues to refine its services, this schedule marks a promising step toward enhancing the commuter experience, with further improvements likely on the horizon.
