SOUTH BEND, IN – The vibrant campus of Indiana University South Bend (IUS) buzzed with excitement as it marked a significant milestone for incoming students—move-in day. Freshmen and new students eagerly unloaded boxes and unpacked their belongings into their new homes at River Crossing, the university's on-campus housing.

Chancellor Susan Elrod, alongside other university leaders, was on hand to extend a warm welcome to the students. “Today is more than just move-in day; it’s the start of a new chapter for our students,” Elrod said. “Providing on-campus housing not only enhances their college experience but also supports higher retention rates, better academic performance, and stronger community involvement.”

This year, IUS will house approximately 400 students on campus, reflecting a growing commitment to creating a supportive and engaging residential environment. Studies have shown that students living on campus tend to achieve higher grades, remain enrolled, and contribute more actively to campus life, fostering a sense of belonging that extends beyond the classroom.

As the sun cast its morning glow over the campus, the anticipation was palpable. With the first day of classes set for Monday, students are settling in, ready to embark on their academic journey. The move-in day at IUS South Bend symbolizes not just a transition to college life, but an opportunity to build a foundation for success and a thriving community.
