A teenager has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery of a gas station in River Edge earlier this month, authorities announced.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday that a 16-year-old from Bergen County is facing armed robbery, weapons offenses and theft charges.

On Aug. 7 around 4:45 a.m., River Edge police officers were called to an armed robbery of a Hackensack Avenue gas station. The prosecutor said that a person in a mask and hooded sweatshirt flashed a handgun in his waistband and demanded money from the attendant and the cash register. The suspect fled with several hundred dollars.

The investigation by Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the River Edge Police Department determined the crime was committed by the juvenile.

The following day, the teenager was arrested and charged with first-degree armed robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree theft.

The suspect was placed at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center pending action by BergenCounty Superior Court Family Law Division.
