DePaul and Pope John kick off their 2024 high school seasons by facing each other on Friday night in Wayne.

Both teams are ranked in the preseason New Jersey Super 25 , with the host Spartans debuting at No. 5 and the Lions coming in at No. 16.

This is an important game in the Super Football Conference United White division, and will also have ramifications for Non-Public B seeding as Pope John was moved to join DePaul in the classifications released on Monday .

Pope John upset DePaul, 31-27, in last year's matchup, which also played in Wayne. DePaul went on to reach the Non-Public B state final, while Pope John lost in the first round of the Non-Public A playoffs.

Watch De'zie Jones, Elijah Burress, DeShawn Stewart and Derek Zammit

Junior Derek Zammit, ranked as the No. 3 recruit in New Jersey's Class of 2026 by 247Sports, leads the DePaul offense.

He has two premier targets to throw to in Ohio State commit De'Zie Jones and Notre Dame commit Elijah Burress, whose father, Plaxico, played 12 seasons in the NFL, including with the Jets and Giants. Jones and Burress are ranked as the No. 7 and 13 recruits, respectively, in New Jersey's Class of 2025 by 247Sports.

The DePaul offense also includes running back Nolan James, an uncommitted senior ranked as the No. 33 recruit in New Jersey's Class of 2025 by 247Sports. James and Zammit both made the Preseason All-New Jersey team .

The DePaul defense features Ohio State commit DeShawn Stewart, ranked as the No. 15 recruit in New Jersey's Class of 2025 by 247Sports.

Pope John's star player is linebacker Tyler Houser, a Wake Forest commit.

Houser is ranked as the No. 18 recruit in New Jersey's Class of 2025 by 247Sports, and he made the Preseason All-New Jersey team .
