    High school track and field: Perrysburg girls claim district title

    The Perrysburg girls scored 112, points, fending off Anthony Wayne (103), St. Ursula (90), and Whitmer (90) to win the Division I track and field district meet held Friday at Clay.

    Lexington won the boys team title with 83.5 points. Second-place Southview was the top local team with 78 points.

    Distance running was an area of strength for the Perrysburg girls as Ava Beeks won the 800-meter run in 2:16.18 and Hannah Kersten took the 1,600 in 5:02.62 and the 3,200 in 11:44.00.

    The Yellow Jackets compiled six other second-place and third-place finishes on their way to clinching the team championship.

    Logan Howe picked up two event wins for the Southview boys, taking the 110-meter hurdles in 14.39 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 37.85. Joshua Adamczyk won the shot put for the Cougars with a mark of 51 feet, 2 inches.

    The team of Giavanna Harris, Olivia Witker, Kamryn Smith, and Madeline Zimmerman won the 400 relay (49.30) and 800 relay (1:42.75) for the Anthony Wayne girls. The Generals also got a win at the girls shot put from Morgan Slough (35-2).

    The top four finishers in each event advanced to regionals.

    Otsego girls runner-up at D-II district

    DEFIANCE — The Otsego girls finished as district runners-up (99 points) while Wauseon’s team came in fourth (65) to lead area performers at the Division II district meet at Defiance High School.

    Ottawa-Glandorf was district champion for both boys and girls.

    The Otsego girls went first and second in the 100 hurdles, as Molly Kramer won with a time of 15.93 and Kaitlin Gardner finished second (16.32). Kramer then finished runner-up in the 300 hurdles (47.62), with teammate Faith Keifer taking fourth (48.17).

    Napoleon’s Molly Rosebrook took third in the 100 hurdles (16.40).

    Otsego’s Brooke Simon swept the shot put and district events. Simon won the shot put with a throw of 41-2½ and the discus at 137-6.

    Otsego’s Ella Hartman qualified for the regional in Piqua by taking fourth in the shot put (36-10).

    The Knights also went one and two in the high jump where Leah McCabe edged twin sister Kayla McCabe, clearing 5-2 in fewer tries.

    Wauseon’s girls had strong individual performances as Ella Rhodes was runner-up in the 1,600 (5:19.06) and the 3,200 (11:44.35).

    Also in the 1,600, Bryan’s Kate Thormeier finished third (5:24.24) and Nicolet Stickney was fourth (5:25.39). Stickney was third (11:54.66) and Thormeier fourth (12:12.39) in the 3,200 for the Golden Bears.

    Area girls took the top four spots in the pole vault as Wauseon’s Teagan Rupp was first (11-0), Matea Burkholder second (9-4) for the Indians, Napoleon’s Audrey Schildt was third (9-4), and Otsego’s Addysen Limes fourth (8-6).

    Top finishers on the boys side were Bryan’s Xander Fackler who won the 3,200 (9:36.26), plus Drew Hahn and Spencer Woodward who took runner-up in the 100 and 400 for the Golden Bears.

    Otsego’s Nathan Stram won the 800 (1:55.43), while Delta’s Walter Hallett took first in the discus (152-11) with Wauseon’s Avery Fruchey coming in second (146-0).

    Wildcats fall just shy of D-III title

    GIBSONBURG, Ohio — The Woodmore girls team fell just short of the Division III district title at Gibsonburg on Friday, being edged out by Margaretta 114.5-112. Danbury’s girls finished third (90.5), Evergreen fourth (52.5), and Tiffin Calvert fifth (47.5).

    Margaretta took the boys district title, finishing with 113 points. Lakota came in second (89), Calvert third (88), Hopewell-Loudon fourth (81), and Mohawk fifth (71).

    The Wildcats were led on the girls side by Azure Travis, a winner in four events for Woodmore. Travis claimed titles in the 100 hurdles (14.52), the 100 (12.34), 300 hurdles (44.48), and 200 (25.86).

    Woodmore’s girls also performed well in distance races, starting with its 3,200 relay team that placed second (10:21.62) to qualify for the regional at Fostoria.

    The Wildcats’ Emma Hammer qualified in a pair of events, taking first in the 800 (2:19.69) and third in the 1,600 (5:36.67).

    Others advancing for the Woodmore girls were Stella Strong (4th-discus, 102-9), Lilian Runion (2nd-long jump, 16-2¾), and Addison Overmyer (4th-pole vault, 10-0). Also, their 400 relay team advanced by finishing third (52.19).

    The Danbury girls were led by a pair of first place finishes from Emma Redett in the 1,600 (5:28.98) and 3,200 (11:39.06).

    Also for the Laker girls, Maggie Thompson finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.08) and third in the 300 hurdles (48.69). Katelynn Bergman advanced in the 400 (2nd, 58.77), Maria Maringer in the 800 (2nd, 2:23.18), and Mia McDonald the high jump (4th, 4-10).

    The Lakers had a winning relay team in the 3,200, they took second in the 1,600 relay, and their 800 relay finished third.

    Regional qualifiers for the Evergreen girls were Alivia Mitchey who won the high jump (5-0), plus Kara Huntzinger advancing in the 100 and 300 hurdles, and Brooklyn Spradlin in the 100.

    The Lakota boys had a bevy of top finishes, led by Chase Dean who won the discus with a best throw of 140-5. They also had Kian Johns and Braxton Quaintance finish second and third in the pole vault, each clearing 14-4 with Johns doing so in fewer attempts.

    Old Fort’s Evan Combs took first in the pole vault at 15-0, while Gibsonburg’s Cole Owens placed fourth (14-4).

    Other qualifiers for the Raiders were Michah Williams (110 and 300 hurdles), Donovan Statham (2nd-400, 51.54), and Avery Shilling (2nd-800, 2:04.41). Lakota then had qualifying relay teams in the 3,200, 800, and 1,600.

    In the boys high jump, Gibsonburg’s Grant Dawson finished second (6-1) and Old Fort’s Henry Beisner took third (6-0). Beisner won the 300 hurdles in 42.24, then added a runner-up finish in the 110 hurdles (16.26). Daniel Steyer came in fourth in the 1,600 (4:50.20) for the Stockaders.

    Old Fort’s 1,600 relay team qualified by finishing fourth.

    Cardinal Stritch’s King Wilson, Jr., finished runner-up in the 100 (11.39), while Woodmore’s Landon Rich finished fourth. In the 800, Woodmore’s Drake Blausey took first while teammate Myles Byrd placed third.
