    Division I track and field: Perrysburg girls runner-up, Southview boys 3rd at regional

    PORT CLINTON — A bevy of area athletes had strong performances to help their teams place high and qualify for the upcoming state tournament in Dayton at the Division I regional at Port Clinton on Friday night.

    The Perrysburg girls finished runner-up in the team standings with 49 points to Avon, who notched 55 points. Whitmer finished third (42.5), Rocky River fourth (34), and Strongsville fifth (33).

    On the boys side, Southview finished tied with Lexington at third with 33 points. St. Francis and St. John’s tied for fifth (32). Avon took first (65.5) in the boys meet as well, followed by Brunswick in second (34).

    The Perrysburg girls qualified in six events. The Yellow Jackets had qualifying relay teams in the 3,200 relay, the 400, and the 1,600.

    Other qualifying relay teams in the area on the girls side were Springfield and Anthony Wayne who joined Perrysburg in the 400, Anthony Wayne (800), and Clay (1,600).

    Additionally for Perrysburg, Camille Francis took third (44.36) in the 300 hurdles and Ava Beeks was fourth (2:14.58) in the 800. Perrysburg’s Hannah Kersten took home second (10:45.94) in the 3,200.

    Also in the 800, Northview’s Harper Brighty qualified for state by taking third (2:14.19). Whitmer’s Azurie Garrett won with a time of 44.69 and her teammate Sage Hudson finished second (44.76) in the 300 hurdles.

    Garrett took runner-up (14.77) in the 100 hurdles, while Whitmer’s Lily Good finished third (5:01.05) in the 1,600.

    Springfield speedster Maira Scott won both the 100 and 200, and St. Ursula’s Aubrey Massey qualified in those two events as well. Scott won the 100 in 11.51 while Massey came in third (12.16), and in the 200 Scott ran it in 23.19 followed by Massey in second (24.79).

    Northview’s Maley Roberts was third (57.66) in the 400 to advance. In the field for area girls, Findlay’s Olivia Gayhart was second (5 feet, 2 inches) in the high jump, Southview’s Myranda Bottles took second (18-0) in the long jump, and St. Ursula’s Kennedy Boze was fourth (127-0) in the discus.

    On the boys side in the field, Maumee’s Lucas Polkinghorn finished runner-up in the high jump (6-6) and third in the long jump (22-7¼). Southview’s Logan Howe won the long jump at 22-9½, and St. Francis’s Greyson Pollock took fourth (6-4).

    Another first in the field came from Bowsher, as Pierre Adams won with a top discus throw of 165-1. Springfield’s Trenton Dao qualified by taking third (13-8) in the pole vault, while Fremont Ross’ Dominic Brown finished fourth (55-6) in the shot put.

    Howe added a win in the 110 hurdles for the Cougars, winning the race in 14.15. Caleb Root took third (14.45) for St. John’s. In the 300 hurdles, Root was runner-up (37.44) and Howe finished third (37.46).

    St. John’s added a third (48.16) from Joseph Taylor in the 400. Anthony Wayne’s Connor Long won the 3,200 in 9:09.79.

    Local runners finished second through fourth in the 800. Clay’s Jayden Williams placed second (1:54.26), Findlay’s Adrian Stechschulte third (1:54.70), and St. Francis’s Kale Seymour fourth (1:55.19).

    Also for the Knights, Ethan Cope won the 1,600 with a time of 4:12.76. Northview’s Brody Hubbard finished in third (4:14.86) and Southview’s Benjamin Tucker placed fourth (4:15.95).

    In boys relays, Findlay’s team (4th) qualified in the 400, St. John’s (3rd) in the 800, and St. Francis (2nd) and Anthony Wayne (4th) advanced in the 3,200.
