Holland woman identified as person killed by train in Springfield Township

Authorities have identified a Holland woman as the person who was fatally struck by a train Saturday at the Crissey Road crossing in Springfield Township.

Amanda Bassett, 36, was reported struck at the crossing south of Geiser Road at 8:33 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Lucas County Coroner Thomas Blomquist said an autopsy Monday revealed nothing beyond the train impact as a factor in Ms. Bassett’s death. The circumstances — why she walked in front of the eastbound freight train — remain under investigation, Dr. Blomquist said.
