    Interstate 85 traffic stop leads to arrest

    The Granville County Sheriff’s Office announced the following information Aug. 1 about a traffic stop and drug-related arrests.

    On July 31, as part of a multi-agency operation consisting of NC ALE and the GCSO, Special Agent J. Quick and Special Agent J. Markley found reasonable suspicion to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Joshua Oakley, traveling southbound on Interstate 85.

    Sgt. M. Harrison and his K-9 partner Justin, and Cpl. T. Ellis with Granville County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division, assisted with this stop.

    After a positive K-9 alert on the vehicle, a probable cause search was conducted, resulting in the following items located:

    • 90 bindles of heroin, approximately 18 grams.

    • 9 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.

    • 6 grams of methamphetamine.

    • 3 grams of marijuana.

    • Numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

    The suspect was charged with trafficking heroin by transportation; trafficking heroin by possession; possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver heroin; possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a schedule I controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances; simple possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana paraphernalia; and careless and reckless driving. Oakley is being held at the GCSO without bond.

    The passenger, Faith Oquinn, was charged with trafficking heroin by transportation; trafficking heroin by possession; possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine; maintain a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances; simple possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Oquinn is being held at the GCSO on a $125,000 secured bond.

    Sheriff Robert Fountain said he would like to thank NC ALE and the men and women of the GCSO for their efforts.
