The Granville County Board of Education at its meeting Aug. 13 named Gwen Roulhac as principal of Granville Early College High School.

Roulhac has more than 20 years of experience in education, previously serving schools in Orange and Durham counties as a principal, assistant principal, testing coordinator, school counselor, and teacher. She earned four degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — a bachelor of arts in English, a master’s in Teaching, a master’s in guidance acCounseling, and a doctorate in educational leadership.

“I am ecstatic and humbled to be named the Principal of Granville Early College High School,” Roulhac said. “I cannot wait to join the Spartan family and, together, engage in the important work that will sustain and enhance the legacy of academic and cultural excellence for which Granville Early College High School is celebrated.”

Granville County Public Schools Superintendent Stan Winborne thanked those who helped in the selection process.

“I want to publicly thank the staff and community members from Granville Early College High School who participated in the principal selection process,” Winborne said. “I am excited to see how Dr. Roulhac continues the legacy of high expectations and educational excellence at the school.”

Earlier in the summer, the board named Kellye Walton as the recruitment and retention coordinator. Walton is a former North Carolina Teaching Fellow and member of the first cohort of CCP3 Principal Fellows at NC Central University.

Walton earned her National Board Certified during her 16 years in education, 10 of which have been with Granville County Public Schools. She has served as a teacher, reading specialist, instructional coach, and assistant principal.

Walton holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master’s in school administration from N.C. Central University. She has a passion for developing teacher capacity, growing leaders, and creating a positive work culture. She said she is excited to start her new role where she can recruit and retain great employees for Granville County Public Schools.

The board also named Kendalyn Smith as Assistant Principal at G. C. Hawley Middle School at an earlier board meeting.
