MHSAA announces Southern Miss will host its 2024 football championships

The Mississippi High School Activities Association has announced that Southern Miss will host the 2024 MHSAA football championships.

On Tuesday, the MHSAA board voted for the 2024 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic will be played Dec. 5-7 at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

“We appreciate the time and conversations with all the potential host sites through this process,” MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves said in a news release. “We have no doubt that Southern Miss and the city of Hattiesburg will once again do a tremendous job hosting and creating exciting, memorable experiences for our schools, students, coaches, families, and communities.”

This will be the fourth time in six years that the MHSAA state championship games will be held in Hattiesburg, with the 2023 championships being held in Oxford at Ole Miss' Vaught-Heminway Stadium.

“We are full of anticipation at Hattiesburg’s selection as host for this year’s football championships, which is an opportunity to welcome visitors from across the state while driving substantial economic growth,” said Marlo Dorsey, Visit Hattiesburg CEO. “This achievement underscores the strength of our community’s collaborative efforts and growing reputation as a sports destination. We extend our gratitude to MHSAA for their ongoing partnership and belief in Hattiesburg’s ability to execute an exceptional event.”

Additional details, including information regarding tickets, parking, tailgating, and other amenities will be shared in the weeks leading up to the championships.

Here is the 2024 Football Championship Schedule:

Thursday, Dec. 5: Class 3A - 4 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 5: Class 7A - 7 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 6: Class 1A - 4 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 6: Class 5A - 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 7: Class 2A - Noon

Saturday, Dec. 7: Class 4A - 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 7: Class 6A - 7:00 p.m.
