    Vote for Mississippi girls high school athlete of the week Aug. 26-31

    There were several top performers across the state in girls high school sports, but only one can be voted athlete of the week for Aug. 26-31.

    To nominate a future athlete of the week, email mchavez@gannett.com or message him on X, formerly Twitter @MikeSChavez .

    Fans may vote in the poll below one time per hour per device. The poll closes at noon on Saturday.

    Nominations

    Mary Carlton Descher, Ocean Springs: Descher produced 18 kills, 42 attacks, nine digs and two aces in Ocean Springs' 3-1 win over Gulfport.

    Fallon Humphries, Madison-Ridgeland Academy: Humphries had 11 digs, nine kills, two aces and two blocks in MRA's 3-0 win over PCS.

    Macie Phifer, Ingomar: Phifer recorded 27 kills, four aces and 62 attacks in two games won over South Pontotoc and Ripley.

    Avery Pickering, Jackson Academy: Pickering scored two goals in Jackson Academy's 2-1 win over PCS.
