Forsyth County Commissioner Gloria Whisenhunt inducted into state Hall of Fame

Forsyth County Commissioner Vice Chair Gloria Whisenhunt was inducted into the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Hall of Fame on Saturday. Whisenhunt was recognized on the last night of the NCACC Conference, which was hosted by Forsyth County Government and held at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem. Honorees are chosen by the NCACC’s Executive Committee. To qualify, individuals must have served as a member of the NCACC Board of Directors and also made significant contributions to county government at either state or national levels. Whisenhunt has been a Forsyth County commissioner since 1996 and has served as both vice chair and chair of the board. Her political career began when she successfully ran a small grass roots campaign for school board in 1990, which consisted of only her and her husband, who acted as her campaign manager. She’s served on the NCACC Board of Directors and General Government Committee. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties (NACo), a position she was elected to by her fellow county commissioners from across the state, and has been a part of numerous NACo committees. Whisenhunt thanked her fellow commissioners from around the state for allowing her to serve on the NCACC and NACo boards of directors. She said while she’s grateful for the opportunity to travel all over the country, she still believes North Carolina is the best state in the nation. “We are the best at everything we do in North Carolina,” said Whisenhunt. “You all are such a great group. I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to serve you in all these capacities.”
