‘They Are Still the Palmetto State’s Premier Program’

Ahead of the 2024 campaign, a national outlet named the best college football team in each state.

In an article published by CBS Sports this week, the Clemson Tigers (to no surprise) were pegged as the Palmetto State’s top team over their in-state rival.

Here’s what CBS Sports’ David Cobb had to say:

“Clemson avenged a 2022 defeat against South Carolina by besting the Gamecocks 16-7 last season. The Tigers have slipped a bit since their last national title in 2018, but they are still the Palmetto State’s premier program.”

The facts back that statement up, as Clemson has won eight of the series’ last nine games and has outscored South Carolina by an average of 21.1 points per game in that span.

Clemson is 73-43-4 all-time against South Carolina, including a 19-11-1 mark against the Gamecocks at home since the rivalry transitioned to a home-and-home format in 1960.

The series will return to Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 30, when the Tigers host the 121 st installment of the rivalry.
