Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is pleased with what he’s seen from the Tigers’ quarterback position so far in fall camp.

“We’re doing a good job there,” Swinney said of the quarterbacks following the first scrimmage of camp on Saturday.

As for how the signal-callers performed in the scrimmage at Memorial Stadium, Swinney said he thought starting quarterback Cade Klubnik “had an outstanding day.”

“He’s had a really good camp,” Swinney said of the rising junior, “and today was really good.”

How did the second- and third-string quarterbacks, redshirt freshman Christopher Vizzina and redshirt sophomore Trent Pearman, fare during the scrimmage?

“CV (Vizzina) has had a really good camp, and he did some really good things today as well,” Swinney said.

“Trent, same thing. He missed a few plays that he wants to have back, but he always responds, too.”

A two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in South Carolina, Pearman joined Clemson as a walk-on in 2022. The product of nearby Daniel High School served on the scout team while redshirting in 2022 before making his college debut vs. Florida Atlantic in 2023 and playing two snaps.

Vizzina, a former national top-50 prospect, played nine snaps in two games while redshirting his first year at Clemson in 2023. He joined the Tigers after passing for 5,000 yards in his prep career at Briarwood Christian School (Birmingham, Ala.).

Klubnik enters his second full season as Clemson’s starting quarterback in 2024. Last season, the former Texas Gatorade Player of the Year from Westlake High School (Austin, Texas) completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 2,844 yards and 19 touchdowns with nine interceptions over 12 starts. He also rushed for 182 yards and four touchdowns on 125 carries.
